Just How Effective Can a R/N (Ranger/Necromancer) Be?

I tried the touch build, but is that all there is? What other things can I use? And is a R/N fun to play?

Well, whenever I feel like doing huge damage, I run Weaken Armor build with my pet. The damage increase is insane! lol

I've got a friend that runs orders with a pet. It's pretty funny to watch.

I saw a build in comp arena once that seemed to be based on using ferocious lunge and vampiric touch that really pwned. Idk the rest of the build tho...

Stick enfeeble in there and whatever else you use in a normal ranger build and you won't have to worry about warriors slicing your guts up ^_^

A R/N can be just as effective as a N/R duh!!!

but if you fancy going for big damage, i will agree with jibikao. Weaken armor greatly enhances damage output on a foe, and barbs only makes this worse for your target. You could even add a skill like shadow strike for a quick spike before your pet does the rest.

what about adding virilence (sp) combined with something like... apply poison or something that could cause a condition that would trigger virilence.

Good Idea too, you don't need much Death Magic for Virilence.

Ranger/Necromancers can basically carry their own debuffs into the field. Run Weaken Armor and Insidious Parasite, possibly even Spiteful Spirit, alongside a few bow attacks and watch your DPS climb the beanstalk. Enfeeble is also a superb skill in Curses.

The Virulence Ranger/Necro with Apply poison + Pin Down + Hunter Shot + Plague Sending/Touch is deadly.
If you have a mesmer (primary or secondary-a R/Me does well) in your team with Fragility and Epidemic or, worst, Fevered Dreams, you are the ultimate monk nightmare.
It works as well in PVP as in PVE.

I thought Orders only work on "Party Members"?? Unless they've changed it? Pet is an Ally.

I really like the idea of Virulence... pretty fast casting and the degen is great but I don't like how the Disease effect spreads out on my teammates (and me!) as well. I've stopped using it because of that unless you have a Necro running Tainted?

But I guess if you go with Pin Dow + Virulence on a warrior that runs to you then that's fine. I just don't like Disease.

I've been playing with Barbs and Weaken Armor and I've come to the conclusion that if you are not a Necro primary, go with Weaken Armor and if you are Necro primary, go with Barbs (and with lvl 16 Curse).

Weaken Armor at lvl 12 Curse lasts over 30s. This usually is good enough for you and your teammates to take down the target. (I usually only use lvl 11 Curse)

Barbs' only benefit IMO is faster casting. 3s from Weaken Armor is really quite long. Another benefit is if your team has W/R using a weak pet (that does pathetic dmg) or a Necro running minions. The Barbs +8 damage will benefit them more. But Barbs' +8 damage will get reduced by Warrior absorption ...to +6. If you have Curse at 16, the damage is +11 which is quite nice and that's why if you are a Necro primary and you can only carry one, use Barbs for the 2s casting time.

I've been in love with Weaken Armor and Barbs. lol I sometimes make a Necro primary and carry both skills. It pains me when I see warriors with Fire sword or Ranger with Storm....
